The beauty of the Internet is that it really allows businesses to look much bigger than they really are. The Internet has, for the most part, created a level playing field across the spectrum where everyone starts with a clean slate. Don’t think that just because a company has deep pockets that you can’t steal away some of their shine online, you just have to get creative and boot strap a little. The good news is that with a little elbow grease you can go head to head with competitors that you never thought you could go up against prior to the Internet.

Here are some great ways to compete online with your overall Internet Marketing campaign:

Leverage The Social Media Space
Since rankings can take some time, the natural progression is with social media. Oftentimes, social media really just requires a bit of time and some creativity to get it right. Hit it hard and think about some viral opportunities that could exist to really create some nice exposure.

Pay Per Click (PPC)
Sure, some of the keywords might be very expensive to go after, but every industry has some low hanging fruit that you should be able to target your ad for without breaking the bank. If you write your ad with very compelling content you have a good chance of pulling away some traffic from your competition.

Opt-In Email Marketing
Work on putting together some co-registration type initiatives where you can really collect some great email addresses to build up your newsletter through a variety of other sources online.

Blog Writing
This is where I think companies can really stand out from the crowd. Nobody brushes off a well written blog, especially if you add some really great personality into the mix. If you are just launching your business in a sea of competitors, try to really focus on the blog and see how unique and compelling you can make the content.

Just because you are new to your space doesn’t mean that you have to sit on the sidelines. Try thinking about some really outside the box approaches with personality and branding and you will see your business move in the right direction.
